Unemployment Still Hampering Recovery Efforts
CHERRY HILL, N.J., June 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Alloy Silverstein Group conducted their quarterly survey of over 1,500 New Jersey and Philadelphia CEOs and CFOs, and as the saying goes, the more things change the more they stay the same. New Jersey still likes Governor Christie, consumer confidence is shaky at best, and though prices are rising, business owners still believe unemployment is the major contributing factor in the struggle to recover economically.

"Area businesses are stabilizing and economic factors are positive, yet no one is hiring," says Ren Cicalese, managing shareholder of Alloy. "Whether you blame reports by the media, the talking heads in Washington, or economic factors such as rising prices, it seems as though everyone is waiting for the recovery to fail," says Cicalese. "Everyone has a different excuse not to hire."
With respect to federal legislation, 72 percent agree with the repeal of the expanded 1099 reporting requirements.
As discussed above, the top issue remains job creation. Even with the continuing deficit crisis and inflation issue, half of respondents feel jobs is the most important topic at both the national and local levels.
