NEW YORK and KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- United Media and
Andrews McMeel Publishing (AMP) announced today that they have joined forces
on what will be the largest collection of Dilbert gift, book, and stationery
products. The program, beginning January 1, 1998, will be enhanced with the
launch of more than 117 units of everyday and seasonal greeting cards
featuring character's from the Dilbert comic strip.
All told, Andrews McMeel will create a total of more than 60 Dilbert
items, making AMP the largest Dilbert licensee in terms of number of products.
In addition to the greeting cards, which will be sold in book, gift and
stationery, and office supply stores throughout the United States and Canada,
Andrews McMeel will market a diverse line of gift and book products. The line
includes mini books, Main Street Editions books, mugs, bookmarks, postcard
books, heat-sensitive mugs, ceramic commuter mugs, cubicle welcome mats,
cubicle poster books, diecut easel characters, picture frames, strip magnets
and character magnets.
Andrews McMeel Publishing plans on creating special merchandising
opportunities for retailers, making it easier for them to meet consumer demand
for Dilbert product. Andrews McMeel also currently publishes Dilbert
softcover reprint collections, as well as Dilbert calendars in five formats
(page-a-day; wall/mini-wall; engagement; desk; and pocket). Released in
April, 1997, the most current reprint collection, Casual Day Has Gone Too Far,
has already earned a position on the best-seller lists of The New York Times,
USA Today, and Publishers Weekly.
