University HealthSystem Consortium Offers Value Analysis Professionals Insightful New Resources
OAK BROOK, Ill., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- In today's academic medical centers, value analysis professionals play a larger role than ever. Now the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) has created a set of noteworthy resources, Value Analysis: Achieving Cost Efficiencies in Health Care, to assist value analysis staff in these complex environments. These new materials, developed with the input of value analysis staff in the field, provide a practical guide to planning, implementing, and managing all phases of a value analysis program. Highlights of current best practices from within and outside of UHC are included, along with a value analysis workbook and customizable online resources. UHC also offers a Value Analysis Initiative Database for tracking and trending value analysis project results and for sharing information and ideas with other program participants.

UHC's Value Analysis Program helps members' value analysis staff learn to lead and implement clinical and operational improvement and cost reduction activities. In 2009, VAP participants using value analysis best practices achieved an average return on investment of 10:1 or more. Participants have saved as much as $1 million per project by applying value analysis to improve supply chain efficiency. The UHC Value Analysis Program emphasizes evidence-based decision making that, in addition to achieving cost savings, improves clinical practices and supports high-quality patient care while engaging physicians and clinical leaders.
"UHC is pleased to add these specialized resources to assist those helping to drive efficiencies in the academic medical center environment. The work of member value analysis programs has resulted in outstanding cost savings and efficiency improvements over time," said Cindy White, UHC vice president, Operations.
