CHESTER, Pa., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to facilitate greater foreign student enrollment in U.S. colleges and graduate schools, the global student placement firm IDP Education is hosting 17 professional school counselors from India between Wednesday, September 16 and Wednesday, September 30.
The delegation, led by IDP's regional director of India, Harmeet Pental, and the regional director of North America, Mark Shay, will visit five college campuses in the Pennsylvania area and participate in six days of intensive training on U.S. admissions. The group will also attend the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) conference in Baltimore where they will participate in professional development sessions and interact with admissions counselors from all over the country and peers from around the world.
"The goal of this project is to provide knowledge and skills to those responsible for guiding Indian students through their search for a higher education in the United States," says Mark Shay. "This experience will help shape the counselor's perspective of U.S. higher education, and will provide them with the tools they need to meet IDP's goals of increasing the number of foreign students coming into the United States. It all follows our CEO's projection that, in the next five years, 1 million foreign students will be studying in the United States."
Both Shay and Pental consider this event vital in light of the recent reports of decreased enrollment from foreign students, particularly students from India. Recruiting companies like IDP are assisting U.S. universities in addressing this shortfall, and the delegation is a concrete example of proactive approaches to keep the connection between the two countries strong.
Currently, IDP in India has 14 counseling centers guiding thousands of students and their families a year through their university search.
