SATURDAY, AUGUST 22: RAY BRADBURY
Profile America -- Saturday, August 22nd. One of the nation's outstanding authors will be 89 today -- Ray Bradbury. Known primarily for his science fiction, he has published more than 500 novels, short stories, stage plays, movie and television scripts, and poetry. Among his best known works are "The Martian Chronicles" and "Fahrenheit 451." He still writes everyday and several new works will appear this summer. Ray Bradbury has received dozens of awards, among them the National Medal of Arts. An asteroid is named for him, and a moon crater is named after his book "Dandelion Wine." Some of Bradbury's titles are among the more than 3 billion books expected to be printed this year.
