SUNDAY, MARCH 29: ROOT CANALS Profile America - Sunday, March 29th. There are a number of special observances in March, ranging from National Pig Day to National On-Hold Month. But the least likely may be the one which starts today - the third annual Root Canal Awareness Week. The idea is that while no one voluntarily chooses to have a root canal - across the country, it's estimated that 16 million teeth are saved each year by the procedure, which has become common and less painful than those performed in the past. Of course, many root canals could be avoided if we each took better care of our teeth on a daily basis. As a nation, our cost for dental services totals nearly $97 billion each year.
