US Cyber Challenge Announces 2013 Summer Cyber Camp Schedule on New Revamped Website

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho, March 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- The U.S. Cyber Challenge (USCC) recently announced the launch of its new website www.USCyberChallenge.org along with the locations of the 2013 Summer Cyber Camps.  The goal of these Cyber Camps is to educate and assess the skills of cyber security talent and prepare them for high skill level positions in our country's workforce.

"The cyber threats facing our nation continue to grow in volume and complexity.  We need a new generation to step up and be ready to defend the networks and systems that we depend on for our economic and national security," said U.S. Representative Mike Rodgers, Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.  "US Cyber Challenge Summer Cyber Camps are a great way to develop and grow the cyber talent that our nation needs to maintain our competitive edge in the world."

Attendance to the 2013 Summer Cyber Camps are by invitation-only.  Participants are invited to attend if they meet sufficient expectations on the qualifying Cyber Quests online competition. The online competition, conducted in collaboration with the SANS Institute and Cyber Aces, tests participants on the most important foundational fields of cyber security.  Registration will begin on March 29, 2013 and conclude on April 29, 2013.  The Cyber Quests competition will open on April 16, 2013 and end on April 30, 2013.

After completion of the 2013 Cyber Quests competition, participants will be assessed by representatives of US Cyber Challenge to determine whether the qualifications were met to warrant an invitation to the Summer Cyber Camps.

Three (3) Summer Cyber Camps will take place in 2013.  The Eastern Regional Cyber Camp will be hosted at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia. The dates of the camp will be June 24-28, 2013.

Another Summer Cyber Camp will be hosted at Wilmington University in New Castle, Delaware and sponsored in part by the university, Delaware Technical Community College, University of Delaware and the State of Delaware. This camp is a statewide-only camp and will take place July 8-12, 2013.

The Western Regional Cyber Camp will be hosted by San Jose State University in San Jose, California.  The camp will take place from August 4-9, 2013.

"We have a significant deficit of well-qualified cyber security professionals in our workforce," stated US Cyber Challenge National Director, Karen Evans.  "Since their inception, our Cyber Camps have proven to be an effective avenue by which skilled talent can develop their abilities even further by our extraordinary team of instructors and be recruited by public and private organizations that attend the job fair."

"The primary mission of US Cyber Challenge is security," stated Michael Assante, CEO of NBISE.  "By investing in the growth and development of cyber security professionals we are helping our country defend itself from cyber attacks by decreasing its vulnerability."
