V3 Systems Transforms the Virtual Desktop World with its VDA (Virtual Desktop Accelerator) V3's VDA delivers up to 300 virtual desktop clients on one 1U-high rack-mounted appliance (up to 15-times the density of other virtual desktop servers), while providing better cloud-based performance than other virtual desktops or traditional PCs

SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- V3 Systems today announced its VDA™, a 1U-high rack-mounted appliance that serves as a virtual desktop accelerator and delivers unprecedented virtual desktop performance from a cloud-based environment.

Today's announcement was made from the Moscone Center in San Francisco at VMworld 2010, one of the world's largest trade shows focused on virtualization and cloud computing. V3 Systems is exhibiting in booth #1740 at VMworld. The show is held August 30 to September 2, 2010.

The VDA delivers up to 300 simultaneous virtual desktop clients running VMware View within a VMware ESX 4.x or higher cloud-computing platform. V3 Systems has achieved its breakthrough virtual desktop performance levels by creating software that boosts the density of virtual clients per processor core while maximizing the capabilities of Flash-based ioDrives from Fusion-io™. The result is the VDA enables desktop computing applications to run "in the cloud" faster than on traditional desktops or any other VDI appliance - and to do so at a fraction of the typical cost.

"We set out to transform the face of virtual desktop computing, and I believe we have done just that," said Peter Bookman, President and CEO of V3 Systems. "The VDA is the fastest virtual desktop environment on the planet, both with traditional desktops and with virtual desktops as well. I'm extremely proud of our team and the public demonstrations we're running at VMworld 2010, demos that show how much faster the VDA is at launching and running a VDI environment, as well as the fact that we can do so at a fraction of the price of other cloud computing / virtualization vendors."

With up to 32 processor cores per VDA appliance, V3 enables enterprises to dramatically lower their in-rack footprint and costs since supporting up to 300 virtual desktop clients with competing solutions would require up to 15 separate 1U-high rackmount servers, and would likely require multiple SANs (storage area networks) and significant increases in cache memory at the client level as well.

According to Bookman, the VDA will deliver virtual desktops at about half the Capital Expenditure (CapEx) cost of other virtual desktop offerings. From an Operational Expenditure (OpEx) standpoint,

  • the VDA will comes in at less than $200/year in annual operational expenses per virtual desktop client,
  • versus ~$1,800/year in annual OpEx costs per virtual desktop client from other companies,
  • versus ~$2,400/year in annual OpEx costs per traditional desktop client.

"The bottom line is that the VDA virtual desktop accelerator from V3 Systems is very fast and very economical and has the ability to transform cloud computing environments overnight," Bookman said. "We look forward to meeting with prospective clients, partners, integrators, VARs and consultants at VMworld 2010 to show them what the VDA can do."

General availability for the VDA is slated for November 2010, and its final pricing will be announced at that time.
