VACC Calls on Healthcare Facilities to Certify Vascular Access Professionals
HERRIMAN, Utah, July 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Vascular Access Certification Corporation (VACC) has issued a call to action to hospitals throughout the country to consider encouraging professionals working in the field of vascular access to seek certification.
Speaking on behalf of the VACC board of directors, Board President Hudson J. Garrett, Jr., PhD, MSN, MPH, FNP, VA- BC™, cited Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as an example for hospitals to follow. "The professionals at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center are shining examples of certified vascular access professionals who are showing pride in their specialty," said Garrett. "Professionals working in the field of vascular access can demonstrate mastery of specialized knowledge by meeting criteria and passing the examination offered by the Vascular Access Certification Corporation, the credentialing arm of the Association for Vascular Access."

In VACC's call to action, the board said that as with other medical specialties, their organization is committed to raising the vascular access bar through evidence based practice, professionalism and advocating safe and responsible practice for patients and families.
Certification through VACC is multidisciplinary in scope and includes a broad range of health care professionals actively engaged in the practice of vascular access, including but not limited to registered nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners, radiology technicians, respiratory therapists, infection preventionists and emergency medical services professionals.
The Vascular Access Certification Corporation (VACC), established in 2009, is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to the validation, through certification, of a specialized body of knowledge for all professionals working in the field of vascular access.
