ValueOptions(R) First to Recognize Credentials for Clinical Social Workers
NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- ValueOptions®, Inc., the nation's largest independent behavioral health care company, announced today that it has recognized two advanced clinical social work credentials granted by the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work. One credential attests to advanced generalist practice; the other attests to advanced practice with children and their families.
ValueOptions is the first national behavioral health company to endorse these standards.
As a result of the ValueOptions® decision, licensed clinical social workers who hold these certifications will be identified as such in the Company's own credentialing process, and in continued re-credentialing.
"Our care managers now have another high-quality tool to use to promote the best match of clinician to client," said Renee Abdou-Malta, Vice-President of National Network Services for ValueOptions®. "We are pleased to be able to recognize the high standards of practice set by the American Board of Examiners in these credentials, and to be able to work with those who hold them."
In utilizing the services of those with advanced credentials, the Company commits itself to providing excellent clinical services to their clientele, said Robert Booth, Executive Director of the Center for Clinical Social Work. The Center sets standards and issues credentials through its unit, The American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work, founded in 1987.
The Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work (BCD) is a credential for experienced clinical social workers who undergo an evaluation of their competence in advanced general practice. Board Certification in Practice with Children and Families is earned by clinical social workers, BCD or BCD-eligible, who undergo an examination of proficiency in this practice area. Clinical Social Work is the largest mental health profession in the United States.
The Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs also recognize ABE credentials.
"ValueOptions® is the first national managed behavioral health organization to recognize these rigorous practice credentials," said Robert Booth, Executive Director of the Center. "It speaks highly of their standards as a provider of clinical services and as a client-oriented health services company."
