CHANTILLY, Va., Aug. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Vencore, Inc. announced today that Tom Sheridan, senior vice president and general manager, was selected to receive the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) von Braun Award for Excellence in Space Program Management for 2015. This award gives national recognition to an individual(s) for outstanding contributions in the management of a significant space or space-related program or project.
Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. John T. "Tom" Sheridan currently oversees a division of Vencore's space operations. Prior to joining Vencore in 2012, Gen. Sheridan served a distinguished career in the U. S. Air Force that culminated in a leadership role as the Commander, Space and Missile Systems Center, Air Force Space Command, Los Angeles Air Force Base, Calif.

Gen. Sheridan received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Connecticut and obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from Bryant University. He served in the Air Force for more than 35 years before joining Vencore in an executive role.

AIAA is the world's largest technical society dedicated to the global aerospace profession. They will present the von Braun Award to Gen. Sheridan at a recognition luncheon on September 2, 2015 in connection with the AIAA Space and Astronautics Forum and Exposition in Pasadena, Calif. The von Braun Award is named after Wernher von Braun, a pioneer in making space flight and exploration a cornerstone of American growth and development in the twentieth century.
