Verizon Celebrates Asian Heritage Month at Asian Pacific American Heritage Festival on May 6
Festival-Goers Will Have Chance to Compete in an Interactive Game That Will
Test Their Knowledge of Asian Culture
NEW YORK, May 2 /PRNewswire/ -- To celebrate Asian heritage month at
the annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Festival, Verizon will give
festival- goers a chance to showcase their knowledge of Asian culture by
competing in an interactive game, "The Verizon Asianology Challenge." The
game will be featured at the Verizon booth at Union Square on Sunday (May
6) from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the champion will receive a Nintendo Wii
game console.
At the festival, booth visitors can also experience and learn about
Verizon's most popular broadband and wireless services and take advantage
of special onsite promotions; enter the Verizon booth raffle to win a
Verizon Wireless phone; and take pictures with friends and family at the
Verizon photo booth.
"We recognize that Asian culture is an integral piece of our community.
That's why Verizon has been a long supporter of events like the APA
Heritage Festival," said Jeff McFarland, director of multicultural
marketing for Verizon.
Lisa Harrison, group manager of Asian marketing for Verizon, said,
"There's no better way to commemorate Asian Heritage month than by testing
your Asian trivia knowledge. 'The Verizon Asianology Challenge' is a great
way to interact and engage with the community."
The two-round challenge will be open to people of all ages. In the
first round, three contestants at a time will compete. The first person to
answer five Asian trivia questions correctly will move on to the second
round. In that round, contestants must answer 10 questions correctly in
three minutes or get eliminated from the game. The contestant who answers
the questions in the least amount of time -- three minutes or less -- will
be declared the champion and will be awarded a Nintendo Wii.
At the APA Heritage festival, visitors to Verizon's booth will have the
opportunity to learn about Verizon FiOS Internet and Verizon High Speed
Internet and can sign up for any of the services. In-language specialists
will be on hand to provide assistance. In addition, visitors will be
invited to join the booth raffle. The winner will receive a free LG VX8700
phone, courtesy of Verizon Wireless. The phone, just introduced last month,
features VCAST for music and video, Bluetooth capabilities, a 2.0-megapixel
camera and camcorder, and a microSD memory port for storage.
This will be the 28th Annual APA Heritage Festival organized by the
Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans. The event was created in 1979 by
former President Jimmy Carter to promote the Asian Pacific American
community and culture.
This year, Verizon is a Patron sponsor of the festival. Supporting the
Asian community has always been one of Verizon's top priorities. Verizon
features an in-language Web site for the company's Asian customers across
the country. For more than a decade, Verizon has provided in-language sales
representatives to support customers who speak Chinese (Mandarin and
Cantonese), Korean and Vietnamese. Today, more than 1,000 employees staff
13 Verizon consumer multicultural sales and solution centers in various
parts of the United States, all of them communicating with customers in
their native languages. For more information about Verizon's broadband
