Veterans' Service Recognized Beyond Memorial Markers
Memorial Footprints Extend Recognition of Fallen Soldiers from Cemetery to Cyberspace
PHOENIX, Nov. 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Veterans Day is a time to remember and recognize those who have served our country and protected our freedoms. Today's technology allows us to extend this recognition from a cemetery or memorial to the Internet.
"We wanted to find a way to recognize our honored loved ones beyond two dates on a memorial," said Trevor Hansen, president and founder of Timeless Footsteps. "Using the latest Internet technology, now we can honor our veterans and family members with photos, videos and life histories that visitors can connect to using a smart phone right from the memorial site."
Hansen's company creates Memorial Footprints™, business card-sized placards that are affixed to headstones and memorials. Footprints include a Quick Response (QR) code that allows visitors to connect to a dedicated website using a smart phone or other connected device. The website includes a biography, photos and links that provide a more complete picture of the veteran's life.
This Veterans Day, the family of Chief Warrant Officer Four Gary Marc Farwell is extending the recognition of his life by connecting his physical memorial to a virtual memorial through a Memorial Footprint.
"Like so many of our veterans, Marc gave his life serving others and serving his country," said Marc's brother, Robert Farwell, of Mesa, Ariz. "In addition, he was a devoted father, husband, sibling and friend." Chief Farwell served 14 years in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Afghanistan and two tours in Iraq. In February, his life ended in a helicopter crash in a German forest during a training mission.
"With Marc's Footprint website, we can share his background, describe his heroic service in Afghanistan and Iraq, and show those who visit the cemetery this Veterans Day who Marc really was," Robert said. "Adding a Footprint is my way to help insure Marc's story continues to be told." (To view Marc's footprint, go to www.timelessfootsteps.com/100027.)
Hansen said Footprint websites are available today with a variety of options and special rates for veterans of all branches of the U.S. military, police officers and fire fighters. For more information about Memorial Footprints, go to www.timelessfootprints.com.
