 automobile market, when the smart fortwo debuts in the United States in
 January, 2008. Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler AG introduced this

     The smart fortwo is the right car at the right time for Americans, who
 are facing volatile fuel prices, increased urban congestion and a mindset
 of environmental responsibility. It offers a high level of comfort,
 agility, safety and ecology, and the vehicle concept is extremely
 practical. American enthusiasm and demand for the smart fortwo is already
 strong, as more than 30,000 people from all 50 states have placed a $99
 deposit to secure a vehicle.
 
     Interest has come from a wide variety of consumers, including:
