BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Aug. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Men in the Northeast United States facing prostate cancer have a new provider offering complete prostate management services, including minimally-invasive high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) therapy. Vituro Health, a comprehensive prostate care provider that empowers men during all stages of life, has partnered with Can-Am HIFU, a Canadian-based clinic, to expand Vituro Health into the Northeast initially in the Philadelphia area.
Jack Barkin, M.D., FRCS, founder and medical director of Can-Am HIFU, together with his five academic partners bring more than a decade of HIFU experience and expertise, with more than 1,000 procedures performed.
"Bringing Can-Am HIFU, Dr. Barkin and his clinical / business partner, Dr. Peter Sinaiko (Langhorne, PA) into the Vituro Health fold further grows our faculty of leading HIFU physicians," said Clete Walker, CEO of Vituro Health. "Ultimately, our aim is to provide the best in prostate care as close to home as possible for patients across the U.S., and this new partnership helps get us closer to achieving that goal."
Barkin says he chose Vituro Health to begin his U.S.-based HIFU treatment services because of the level of HIFU experience Vituro physicians possess and the long term goal of achieving superior patient outcomes and satisfaction through a high level of service and quality.
"Myself, Vituro Health Medical Director Stephen Scionti, M.D., and other Vituro physicians are certified HIFU proctors, meaning we have the experience to deliver top-notch HIFU care and we can provide proper training to new HIFU physicians," Barkin explained. "We want to provide a very high level of service for patients suffering from a significant disease by making it as painless as possible, but also scientific and professional. With this partnership Vituro Health now has the most experienced and thorough training program for HIFU physicians in the country."
In addition to experience, Barkin was attracted to Vituro's holistic approach to men's overall health.
"My interest in urologic oncology goes beyond HIFU therapy to treat prostate cancer," Barkin said. "I believe aging males need comprehensive prostate management and that is what Vituro Health offers them."
Barkin, who also serves as a clinical professor of surgery at the University of Toronto, will join the Vituro medical board, serve as a proctor in the Northeastern region of the U.S., and help create a national registry of Vituro patients to follow for long-term outcomes for research purposes.
"Following and documenting clinical results gives us the ability to maximize the clinical response and patient satisfaction," Barkin said. "It is critical to make sure patients are receiving the highest quality of care and this can be accomplished by careful and long term follow-up on all patients."
Vituro Health, in cooperation with local urologists, plans to begin treating eligible patients with HIFU therapy in late August or early September 2016.
