BILLERICA, Mass., Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- VoltDB (www.voltdb.com), the leading provider of high-throughput relational database systems, today announced the appointments of Sam Berg as vice president of field operations and John Piekos as vice president of engineering. Both executives will help to further build VoltDB's leadership in emerging NewSQL markets.
"New high velocity data applications are coming online daily, signaling a period of tremendous opportunity in the market for Big Data solutions," said VoltDB CEO Scott Jarr. "Sam and John will significantly impact our strategy, operations and culture as we strive to deepen our customer relationships and expand VoltDB's market leadership position. We're thrilled to be adding these two seasoned executives to our management team as we enter this period of growth and expansion."
Prior to joining VoltDB, Sam Berg was vice president of sales at Nexaweb and was responsible for the company's transition from proprietary web development tools to one of the leaders in the legacy modernization space. During his tenure at Nexaweb, the company turned to profitability and experienced significant growth at the height of the economic downturn. Prior to Nexaweb, he served in critical sales and account management roles with SAP America and IBM, where he consistently over-achieved quota, developed year-over-year pipeline growth, and earned top sales honors. Prior to joining IBM, Sam held account management and sales roles with Ascential Software and Vality Software.
"I'm very excited to be joining the VoltDB team," said Berg. "Big Data applications are driving a phenomenal renaissance in the database management market, and I believe VoltDB is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the high-growth segments of that market, leveraging our open source programs and an increasing base of enterprise customer deployments. I look forward to serving VoltDB's customers, partners and distributors."
John Piekos has held technical leadership positions at several companies, most recently at Progress Software where he led the OpenEdge database, ObjectStore database and Orbix product lines. Previously, John was vice president of Web Engineering at EasyAsk, and chief architect Novera Software, where he led the effort to build the industry's first Java Application Server.
"I'm a huge believer in the performance and scale that can be achieved with the VoltDB's main-memory architecture," said Piekos. "The market is eager for database alternatives, and VoltDB delivers all of the components needed to build, test, deploy and manage ultra-high throughput applications. I'm excited about helping VoltDB to become the database of choice for open source and commercial developers worldwide."
