Vescuso will apply more than two decades of expertise in marketing and business development to drive VoltDB's global marketing functions and establish the company as the database platform for the Smart Revolution.
Vescuso's appointment comes at a critical time for VoltDB as the digital and physical worlds connect through the Internet of Things (IoT), contributing to an unprecedented increase in data creation. Tapping these data streams in an interactive, intelligent way creates a new dimension in terms of what's knowable, what's actionable, and what's possible.
These changes amount to nothing short of a Smart Revolution and coincide with a rapid expansion in VoltDB's customer count. Many of these industries are motivated by the need to create "smart" applications and services based on data from connected devices and sources, such as energy grids, homes, sensors, and mobile devices.
"There is remarkable market opportunity for VoltDB as the only database with the performance and scalability required to support a new generation of smart applications that take intelligent action on fast-moving data," said Vescuso. "There's no question that businesses can differentiate their offerings and make more profitable decisions by tapping fast data and targeting customers on a personalized basis at the optimal time. The momentum toward real-time technology is on our side."
Prior to joining VoltDB, Vescuso served as executive vice president of marketing and business development at Black Duck Software, where he established the company as a globally recognized brand at the forefront of the open source software management market. Previously, he was general manager and vice president at Cantata Technology, a provider of enabling technology for communications which was acquired by Dialogic in 2007. Earlier in his career, Peter was vice president of marketing at Brooktrout Technology and held senior management positions at both Compaq and Hewlett-Packard prior to their merger.
"Peter is a highly accomplished marketing executive with a proven track record of success in positioning companies to seize and take advantage of a burgeoning market opportunity," said Bruce Reading, CEO of VoltDB. "The significance of this moment in the growth of our company and in the larger Big Data movement we're a part of dictates that we turn to someone of his caliber to help guide our brand forward."
