WASHINGTON, Dec. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Members of the Washington National Opera Chorus, which is widely recognized as one of the finest opera ensembles in the world, will perform its Fourth Annual AGMA Relief Fund benefit concert on January 20th, 2013 at 4 pm, at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Northwest Washington, DC.  Admission to the concert is free, freewill offerings will be gladly accepted.  ALL proceeds from the concert will support the Relief Fund of the American Guild of Musical Artists, established by the national union representing vocalists, dancers, and opera and ballet production staff to help cover basic living expenses of members in severe financial need.

The arts are disproportionately affected by economic uncertainty. The lack of work often leaves artists in a precarious financial situation which impacts both the individuals and their families. Recognizing the need faced by some of their colleagues, singers from the Washington National Opera Chorus volunteer their time and talent to rehearse and present the AGMA Relief Fund Benefit Concert.

This year's concert, held during Inauguration and MLK weekend, will celebrate the music of the United States. Under the direction of conductor and Chorus Master of the Washington National Opera, Maestro Steven Gathman, the WNO Chorus will perform a varied program of American choral and operatic selections. Choral works include pieces by William Albright and Samuel Barber with spiritual and folk song arrangements by Moses Hogan , James Erb , Carol Barnett , Betty Jackson King and Stephen Paulus . Operatic highlights include excerpts from Carlisle Floyd 's SUSANNAH, TILL VICTORY IS WON, by Mark Fax and The Gershwin's PORGY AND BESS. Previous concerts have been lauded as artistic triumphs, and this year's concert is sure to be a very special experience for audience members.

The beautiful and historic St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church is located at 4001 Yuma St. NW, Washington, DC 20016 (easily accessible from the Tenleytown stop on Metro's Red Line ). Please visit agmareliefconcert.org for more information.
