Watermelon Catapult to Launch at Sci-Tech Discovery Center National Watermelon Day to be celebrated with scientific slingshots at North Texas children's museum.

FRISCO, Texas, July 31, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Melon propellin' is scientifically slang for the slingshot extravaganza that Sci-Tech Discovery Center plans to demonstrate on Watermelon Day this Saturday, August 3, 2012.  Bring a small, round watermelon between 10:00 a.m. and noon and you'll see the power of physics using real seed slinging catapults.  Newton's Lab founder Bob Gilkison will launch watermelons on the lawn.  This free event also includes melon rolling relay races for the kids to enjoy.

"Tell me a better way to launch into the hottest month of a Texas summer than watermelon pandemonium," said Paul Vinson, Executive Director of Sci-Tech Discovery Center.  "And to actually get to learn something about physics while doing it too!"

After the rind mashing has mounded, make your own popsicle catapult at the the Wow! Lab inside Sci-Tech Discovery Center.  Admission is free to Sci-Tech members and children under two years.  General admission is $7.00, and Senior (age 60+) admission is $5.50.  Group rates are available for 10 or more with advance reservations.  For directions or additional information about Summer Discovery Camps, Quadcopter Flight School, Preschool Storytime, and more, please visit www.mindstretchingfun.org
