NEW YORK, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Verve Music Group has launched an
innovative new web site at www.vervemusicgroup.com . With over 24,000 sound
clips, 1,600 albums, and 1,900 artists, the site's visitors can truly
experience the music and history of The Verve Music Group. With a powerful
search tool and a new database-driven format, music fans can learn about not
only the current artists from the label group's unparalleled roster (Diana
Krall, Michael Brecker, George Benson, Natalie Cole, Wayne Shorter, Richard
Elliot, Herbie Hancock, and Shirley Horn, among many others), but also legends
of jazz such as John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, Lester Young, Billie Holiday,
and Sarah Vaughan.
The site enables the user to listen to virtually every track from the
entire Verve Music Group active catalog, which features recordings from
16 label brands. This includes all new Verve, GRP, and Blue Thumb releases as
well as reissues of titles from Impulse!, Commodore, Decca, A&M, and the other
classic labels that fall under The Verve Music Group umbrella.
www.vervemusicgroup.com offers an exciting interactive opportunity for its
visitors. Users can not only post their own reviews of each album on the
site, but also create and display a list of their favorite Verve Music Group
titles. A number of downloads, ranging from music to video to e-cards, are
available to registered users.
The site's unique turntable feature begins streaming an incredible variety
of sound clips as soon as the main page is launched. Visitors might hear a
track from Charlie Haden's GRAMMY(R)-winning Nocturne or a classic by Oliver
Nelson or Stan Getz, followed by the new Lyle Lovett/Matt Rollings track "Gee
Baby, Ain't I Good to You" from Verve's Kissing Jessica Stein Soundtrack, Jeff
Golub's rendition of Average White Band's "Cut the Cake" from his new GRP CD,
Do It Again, and then Astrud Gilberto's "Who Needs Now?" as remixed by
Thievery Corporation from the upcoming new release Verve Remixed.
Designed by the Seattle-based web design firm Microgroove
( www.microgroove.com ), the site also includes hot news (the "Buzz" section),
artist pages, links, discographies, and artist itineraries that are updated
every four hours. Site members can also write reviews and create lists of
their favorite CDs. The site's database will soon include all musicians and
producers involved in each album.
Jon Vanhala, The Verve Music Group's Vice President of Strategic Marketing
and New Media, commented: "Our goal was to create a fun, interactive music
experience for our consumer that showcases our new releases while promoting
discovery of our catalog." New Media Manager Michael Deputato states: "The
greatest compliment we've received is from people who say they lose all track
of time while surfing the site."
The Verve Music Group is a division of the Universal Music Group, a unit
of Vivendi Universal, a global media and communications company.
