NEW YORK, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- WhatWorks Inc, a branding and web development communications practice, was recently commissioned to work on the GIVAS (Global Impact and Vulnerability Alert System) project, by the Executive Office of the Secretary-General of United Nations.

The project required WhatWorks to conceptualize an idea that was smart, sharp and understood quickly. It also needed to be classy and understated, sophisticated and yet, not over-done.

A report, "Voices of the Vulnerable: The Crises from the Ground Up," was created to show that the GIVAS initiative is vitally necessary. WhatWorks was charged with visually presenting "Voices of the Vulnerable" in a way that highlighted the human element of the report while clearly presenting complex statistical information. The resulting brochure demands attention without being ostentatious and reflects the emotional depth of the crisis without wringing pathos from the viewer.

The web component of this project required WhatWorks to develop a multi-staged site that would act as an interactive depository for the information compiled by GIVAS. The site provides community driven blogs, news updates, video submissions and a cross-referenced database of international reports from the UN and other developmental groups.

Both the report and the website were launched at the UN General Assembly on September 23, 2009.
