Women in Politics Panel at National Archives March 5

Eleanor Clift To Moderate Free Public Program Exploring Women's Political Leadership

WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Foundation for the National Archives and the National Archives are pleased to present a panel discussion, Big Strides, Diverse Paths: Women's Journeys to Political Leadership, Thursday, March 5, at 7:30 PM. The event will take place in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC, at Constitution Avenue and 7th Street, NW. It is free to the public and is generously supported by the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund, Inc.

The influence of women has never been more prominent in politics, but what challenges did women in leadership positions face and what are the stories behind their political journeys? Eleanor Clift, weekly panelist on The McLaughlin Group and author of Madam President, moderates a panel of women from diverse backgrounds with various experiences in the political arena.

Panelists include:

  • Marsha Blackburn, U.S. Congresswoman from Tennessee;
  • Mazie Hirono, U.S. Congresswoman from Hawaii;
  • Grace Napolitano, U.S. Congresswoman from California;
  • Madeleine Kunin, former Governor of Vermont and author of Pearls, Politics, and Power; and
  • Jennette Bradley, former Lieutenant Governor of Ohio.

Thora Colot, Executive Director of the Foundation for the National Archives, said, "We are delighted to partner with the McGowan Fund for the second year on a National Archives forum that invites an invigorating and open dialog on important issues facing women. This year's program promises fascinating insiders' views of the halls of U.S. Congress and state houses from women who have risen to the upper echelons of political power."

The National Archives is fully accessible. If you need to request an accommodation (e.g., sign language interpreter) for a public program, please email public.program@nara.gov or call 202-357-5000 one week prior to the event to ensure proper arrangements are secured.
