CAMBRIDGE, England, LinuxWorld Expo, Booth 2315, Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ --
Zeus(R) Technology, Ltd., the leading developer of mission-critical web server
technologies and solutions, today announced that benchmark tests performed by
the IBM(R) Linux Technology Center (Austin, TX) demonstrate Zeus Web
Server(TM) performance can be boosted by more than 85% running Linux(R) 2.4 as
compared to Linux 2.2.x.
Unlike other web servers, the highly-advanced Zeus architecture uses a
fixed number of single-threaded I/O multiplexing processes, each capable of
handling tens of thousands of simultaneous connections, coupled with a
kernel-threaded component for high-performance dynamic content. This
architecture supports near-linear scalability on SMP platforms. Using the new
Symmetric Multiprocessing (SMP) capabilities in Linux 2.4 allows Zeus to
significantly outperform all other Web servers in this environment and easily
scale to future, bandwidth-intensive application requirements.
"Zeus Web Server has always been known for its speed and robust
scalability in mission-critical Web sites such as search.eBay.com, which has
served over ten billion pages in two years with no down time using the Zeus
solution," said Damian Reeves, co-founder and chief technology officer of Zeus
Technology. "These new tests from IBM amply demonstrate the scalability and
performance advantages our platform can achieve under Linux 2.4 with SMP.
This benchmark demonstrates why Zeus is universally acknowledged as the
high-performance Web server of choice for Linux."
About the Tests
The tests were performed by the IBM Linux Technology Center using the
SPECweb99 Web server benchmarking system and a twenty-client test network. The
server machine was a Netfinity(TM) 7000 M10 450 MHZ Pentium(R) II 4 CPUs with
4 IBM EtherJet(TM) 10/100 Ethernet cards and 4 GB of RAM, running Zeus Web
Server 3.3.7. During the test the Zeus server saturated the network bandwidth
before the limits of the server were reached. Further information can be found
