SHANGHAI, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- WuXi PharmaTech (NYSE: WX), a leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical-device research and development outsourcing company with operations in China and the United States, today announced the winners of its third Life Science and Chemistry Awards, held on December 20, 2009, at the China World Hotel in Beijing.

The theme of this year's awards was Biology in Drug Discovery. The selection panel was comprised of ten scholars with extensive industry expertise:

    -- Han Qide, honorary Chairman of the selection panel, Vice Chairman of

       Chairman of the Jiusan Society, President of the Chinese Society for
       Science and Technology, Dean of the Medical School of Peking

    -- Dr. Saijuan Chen, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Medical
       Genomics, Executive Director of the Shanghai Institute of Hematology,
       and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering
    -- Dr. Yi Rao, Dean of the School of Life Sciences at Peking University
    -- Dr. Yigong Shi, Dean of the School of Life Sciences at Tsinghua
       University
    -- Dr. Gang Pei, President of Tongji University and Academician of the
       Chinese Academy of Sciences

Sixteen winners were selected through a rigorous, objective, and transparent evaluation process that began in July.

    The First Prize winners are:

    -- Dr. Yongfeng Shang, Director of the Department of Biochemistry and
       Molecular Biology of the School of Basic Medical Science at Peking
       University
    -- Dr. Jiahuai Han, Professor of the School of Life Sciences at Xiamen
       University and Dr. Baofeng Yang, President of Harbin Medical
       University
    -- Dr. Baofeng Yang, President of Harbin Medical University

Dr. Yongfeng Shang is a newly selected Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Baofeng Yang is a newly selected Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

    The Second Prize winners are:

    -- Dr. Hongbing Shu, Dean of College of Life Sciences at Wuhan
       University
    -- Dr. Xiangyin Kong from the Shanghai Institutes for Biological
       Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Group Leader of
       Molecular Genetics of the Institute of Health Sciences of Shanghai
       Jiaotong University School of Medicine
    -- Dr. Jianping Ding from the Institute of Biochemistry and Cell
       Biology of the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences of the
       Chinese Academy of Sciences
    -- Dr. Tianle Xu from the Institute of Neuroscience of the Shanghai
       Institutes for Biological Sciences of the Chinese Academy of
       Sciences

       Development Office and Director of the Department of Pharmacology of
       Tongji Medical College at Huazhong University of Science and
       Technology
    -- Jie Tang from the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of
       Sciences
