XKL's New DarkStar(TM) In-Line Fiber Amplifiers Move Data at the Speed of Light
Compact, Energy-efficient 1U Devices Deliver Excellent Latency for Businesses with Time-Sensitive Data Needs
REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- XKL, LLC, a leading-edge provider of enterprise fiber optic networking equipment, announced today that it has launched a new family of in-line fiber optic amplification products that can achieve unprecedented latency speeds.
In a realistic test bed running 40 channels of 10Gb/s data, XKL achieved a one-way latency of just 6.071 milliseconds (fiber plus equipment latency) over 1231 kilometers of fiber - roughly the distance between Chicago and New York City. This test was done using the new XKL DRA line amplification units with 1231 km of actual fiber.
"This milestone underscores my firm belief that our designs provide superior optical physics with an eye towards complex modulation formats of the future. Transmission development will not stop at 100Gb/s," said Len Bosack, CEO of XKL and co-founder of Cisco Systems. "By leveraging the inherent, but often untapped, physics of fiber optic components, we can increase speeds with devices that use less power, less space and require less cooling."
The new DRA and DBA line amplification units optimize existing fiber optics infrastructure by maximizing data throughput to create fast and reliable fiber optic networks for enterprise data transmission. These compact 1Usub systems, located along the fiber, move data with lower latency and cost than previous solutions. The low latency and cost savings delivered by XKL's DarkStar fiber optics amplification units make for a high return on investment, particularly for businesses that rely on high speed data transfer to capitalize on market opportunities.
XKL's DRA and DBA units are available and shipping now.
