Young Adults' Lack of Voting, Civic Knowledge and Engagement to be Highlighted at Forum for U.S. Educators, Policymakers, Media

WASHINGTON, July 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A new ETS report showing that weak civic knowledge among young people is linked to less voting, volunteering and other types of civic engagement will be the focus of a briefing for representatives from government, education, the private sector and media at the Washington, D.C. Office of Educational Testing Service (ETS) on July 19. The special briefing will be held from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. at 1800 K Street, NW, Suite 900.

The report, Fault Lines in Our Democracy: Civic Knowledge, Voting Behavior, and Civic Engagement in the United States, was written by Richard J. Coley of the ETS Center for Research on Human Capital and Education and Andrew Sum of the Center for Labor Market Studies, Northeastern University. 

Coley and Sum will present the findings and moderate discussion among attendees and guest experts Judith Torney-Purta , Professor of Human Development (HDQM), University of Maryland, and Wade Henderson , President and CEO, The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.
