Young reader novel RAJA, Story of a Racehorse earns spot on Kirkus Review "Best of 2012" list
WEYBRIDGE, Vt., Dec. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Kirkus Reviews, a respected voice in book discovery, announced today that it has named RAJA, Story of a Racehorse (Old Bow Publishing) by Anne Hambleton, to its Best of 2012 Indie list. Called "An outstanding debut novel for young people" and "reminiscent of Anna Sewell's 19th century classic, Black Beauty" by Kirkus, RAJA, Story of a Racehorse is an award-winning young reader novel about the tragedies and triumphs that befall a Thoroughbred racehorse – from the horse's point of view.
"I am completely overwhelmed and delighted by this honor. I hope that kids who read RAJA, Story of a Racehorse will take away an appreciation for the relationships we have with our animal companions and the life of racehorses. Everything I write about, good and bad, happens every day in the horse world. I know. I've lived much of it," says author Anne Hambleton, a former amateur steeplechase jockey who actively cares for and trains several ex-racehorses at her farm in Vermont. "My horses and their stories were the inspiration for 'RAJA' and several of the equine characters in the book borrow personalities from them."
RAJA, Story of a Racehorse has won a Mom's Choice Gold Medal, the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Silver award for Young Reader Fiction and an IPPY Bronze medal for Juvenile Fiction.
