An Ecuadorian man who died from cancer after living near one of over 900 Chevron oil pits, contaminated with toxic waste. Chevron was the sole builder and sole operator of an exploration and drilling system in the Ecuadorian rainforest from 1964 to 1990. An Ecuador court ruled Chevron should pay $19 billion to clean up the contamination and provide health care and clean drinking water to the area. Chevron has refused and is trying to get U.S. courts to stop enforcement of the judgment, while the Ecuadorians seek to seize the oil giant's assets in Canada and Brazil.
