According to a new report released by The Pew Charitable Trusts, general purpose reloadable prepaid cards can be used as an alternative to traditional checking accounts, but come with added risks. Pew reviewed 52 prepaid cards that cover at least 75 percent of the market in 2011 and found that their varying fee structures make comparison shopping very difficult because most products have 7 to 15 individual fees to consider.
