Dr. Susan Hardwick-Smith of Houston, TX finishes her first Ironman Triathlon raising $31,000 to benefit the Houston-based West Africa Fistula Foundation (WAFF). Dr. Hardwick-Smith will travel to Sierra Leone to volunteer her surgical skills to help some of the 2-3 million women who suffer from Obstetric Fistulas worldwide. Virtually unheard of in the United States, Obstetric Fistulas are the result of poor or nonexistent healthcare. Dr. Hardwick-Smith fund-raises to provide badly needed medical treatment, and a working staff within the country to establish local care and treatment for this terrible condition.
