As the merger between Newsweek and the Daily Beast is in the final steps of being completed, the companies have come to agreement on editorial staffing. Thirty six staffers will be added to Newsweek/Daily Beast.  However, it may be possible that Newsweek may offer buyouts in the future. Interim Editors Dan Klaidman and Nisid Hajari have left the publication as of the end of January. Steve Koepp and Arthur Hochstein are now in charge of overseeing Newsweek until the merger is completed. Ray Chelstowski joins as the new Publisher. He was previously Publisher at Entertainment Weekly.

Fox affiliate KTVU-TV Channel 2 in Oakland, California has launched Mornings On 2 Weekend Edition, airing Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. Anchors Mike Mibach and Claudine Wong are anchoring the new program, with Rosemary Orozco joining as meteorologist. Amit Pendyal has been named General Manager for the non-commercial station KPFA-FM 94.1 in Berkeley, California. He replaces Interim General Manager Rijio Lemlem, who left. Bill Bradley, a former Sports Editor for The Sacramento Bee, has launched 27×, a web site that offers sports news and opinion. The site currently focuses on Sacramento area sports, but has plans to expand into other areas. Reach the outlet at billbradley@27× and follow on Twitter @27×7.

MediaNews, owner of over 50 daily newspapers may be looking to merge with Freedom Communications, publisher of the Orange County Register. No definite plans are in the works just yet.

Entertainment news site TheWrap acquired web-based subscription database, Itsonthegrid provides comprehensive movie industry information including script information, writing and directing assignments.

Former Los Angeles Times Editorial Writer, Kay Mills has passed away. Ms. Mills taught journalism and writing at USC and Princeton and was the author of five books. Kay Mills was 69.

New digs for KPNX-TV. The NBC affilate has moved to the lower level of The Arizona Republic building. Both outlets are owned by Gannett.

WPIX-TV (Channel 11) is in a state of turmoil as it cuts staff including the entire sports department. They are now the only New York City television station that does not have its own sports department. Also cut were the entire human resources, research and community affairs departments. A number of news personnel were demoted including Jim Watkins, Lolita Lopez and Kaity Tong.

Audiences and even competing networks were shocked when it was announced that popular Anchor Keith Olbermann was leaving MSNBC immediately. Olbermann, the host of the nightly program, “Countdown With Keith Olbermann,” was a sometimes controversial figure at the network. There have been rumors that he was fired by the network after it was purchased by cable giant Comcast. But parent company NBC Universal has denied this. Countdown aired for seven years.

WTIC-TV has announced the launch of a new weekend morning newscast. The show will air on Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 am. Hosting the newscast is Anchor Audrey Kuchen along with Meteorologist Dan Amarante.

CNN – Cable News Network (Atlanta, GA) — Karl Penhaul exits his position as Video Correspondent for the network. He was recently based in Bogotá, Columbia since 2004. However, Bryan Monroe ( joins the editorial staff as Political Editor for His new role will make him responsible for overseeing editorial planning content strategy targeted for online political coverage. Monroe was previously worked as VP and Editorial Director for Ebony and Jet magazines. And finally, new hire Mark Whitaker ( jumps onboard as the networks new Managing Editor. Whitaker has recently left his post as NBC News Washington Bureau Chief to pursue his new role as CNN .

Anderson Cooper 360 – CNN (Atlanta, GA) Cooper welcomes newscast member Isha Sesay ( who will serve as News Anchor for the show. Sesay will continue to host the shows Inside Africa and anchor for International Desk for CNN International .

CNN Newsroom (Atlanta, GA) — White House Correspondent Suzanne Malveaux ( has been promoted to Anchor for the show CNN Newsroom, which airs Monday-Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Malveaux has replaced Tony Harris who has recently left his post at the network.

Piers Morgan Tonight – CNN (Atlanta, GA) The nightly aired show welcomes its new Editorial Producer Pamela Gross ( Also joining the team is Rachel Burstein ( who is assigned as Booking Producer, She previously worked at Harpo Productions , CNN – Cable News Network, Today, and Dateline NBC.
