PEORIA, Ill., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Dynamic Graphics Group, a leading
international source for stock images, publications and events, announced
today the winners of STEP inside design 100, the prestigious annual design
competition staged by the award-winning STEP inside design magazine.
The only design annual of its kind, each of the 100 winners was
interviewed on the strategies and concepts behind each piece and prominently
showcased in the March/April issue of the STEP 100 Design Annual.
"This is a rare opportunity for creatives to share the thinking behind
their design solutions, and to offer readers a window into the very personal
creative process," noted Emily Potts, Editor of STEP inside design. "The
quality of work that we feature is a feast for the eyes and our winning
designers, an inspiration. All of us at STEP inside design are thrilled that
we can be a platform for graphic design excellence, optimism and passion."
Judges for the competition included Noreen Morioka, Principal,
AdamsMorioka, Los Angeles; Brown Johnson, Creative Director, Nick Jr., New
York; Dana Arnett, Principal, VSA Partners, Chicago; Stephen Doyle, Principal,
Doyle Partners, New York; and Rick Valicenti, Principal, Thirst, Chicago.
With such a special showing, this year's judges, along with former judges
Greg and Pat Samata of SamataMason Design, held a friendly competition amongst
themselves with the winning concept landing on the cover. Greg Samata's
"design on fire" theme supports and encourages the idea that designers are
doing great work, despite an uncertain economy and global outlook.
STEP inside design also enlisted top multimedia designers to judge the web
design portion of the competition. They included Brendan Dawes from Magnetic
House in the UK; James Baker from WDDG in New York; and Robert Hodgin of The
Barbarian Group in Boston. In all, 16 websites were selected for inclusion --
the most websites ever featured in the STEP 100.
All work must have been created between October 2003 and October 2004.
Categories included annual reports, catalogs, packaging, posters, identities
and logos, book covers, and websites. The resulting show is a representation
of the best work designers created in 2004.
