154 College Teams Present Economic Outreach Projects at Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) National Competition in Kansas City

    KANSAS CITY, MO., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- From an initial field of
 750 American college teams, 154 regional champion teams will compete in Kansas
 City, Missouri, May 13 - 15 at the Students in Free Enterprise SIFE USA
 National Exposition, sponsored by the Kansas City Business Community.
     All teams will compete on Monday at Bartle Hall Convention Center,
 followed by final rounds on Tuesday.  The 4-year division winner will be named
 the RadioShack SIFE USA National Champion and will move on to represent the
 United States at the inaugural SIFE World Cup in London, England, July 12 -
 13, and compete against as many as 19 national champion teams. The Radio Shack
 SIFE USA National Champion in the 2-year division will travel to London and
 present their program as an exhibition.
     During national competition, SIFE Teams will present 24-minute multi-media
 summaries of the educational outreach projects they developed and implemented
 throughout the year.  More than 750 of the nation's top business leaders will
 be on hand to judge.  Teams will be rated on how well they have taught others
 how free enterprise works and how well they have equipped others with the
 tools necessary for success.  Among the thousands of projects that will be
 presented at this year's competition are:
 
     -- Missouri:  YEA! The Young Entrepreneurs Association prepares 6th and
        7th graders to be effective members of the global economy, reaching
        6,000 students in five countries.
 
     -- California: Cow Bank lends milking cows to village families in India;
       the families use some milk, sell the rest and repay the loan with the
       cow's first female calf.
 
     -- Colorado:  Via the worldwide web, Virtual Business Tour Library enables
       students to tour a business and learn how it operates. SIFE created
       video and narratives for each tour step. Since translating the tour
       into Portuguese, sixty K-12 students in Brazil have participated.
 
     -- Arizona: Micro Loan - Created the Northern Arizona Small Business Loan
        Fund which provides loan capital, business education and training to
        small business owners. Wrote funding proposals and raised more than
        $150,000.
