Agreement expands 360networks' reach and provides more on-ramps to

its global network

Apr 18, 2001, 01:00 ET from 360networks Inc.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA and VANCOUVER, BC, April 18 /PRNewswire/ - Equinix,
Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), creator and operator of neutral Internet Business
Exchange(TM) (IBX(TM)) centers, and 360networks (NASDAQ: TSIX, TSE: TSX), a
global provider of broadband network services, today announced the
availability of 360networks' services in Equinix IBX centers nationally. The
agreement will initially cover Equinix IBX centers in Los Angeles, Chicago and
Dallas, with possible expansion to IBX centers in New York, Silicon Valley and
 Washington, D.C.
As a part of the agreement, 360networks will offer its network services
to service providers, content providers and application service providers
participating in Equinix's open marketplaces for Internet infrastructure
services. These services include optical wavelengths, optical virtual private
networks (VPNs), IP transit and IP transport.
By locating at Equinix IBX centers, 360networks gains access to the
significant aggregation of Internet companies taking advantage of the benefits
of operating in Equinix's neutral environment. Equinix IBX centers act as hubs
for Internet commerce, attracting a critical mass of service providers,
networks, content providers and enterprises in a single location. 360networks
benefits from the ability to interconnect to many of its partners quickly and
economically in the same location, while greatly expanding the reach of its
 services.
360networks is currently developing its own network points of presence
and colocation sites in major cities worldwide where telecommunications
companies and other data-centric companies can connect their routers, servers
and data applications to 360networks' global network.
"Our agreement with Equinix is part of a broader strategy to connect with
selected Internet exchange points and carrier-neutral colocation facilities
worldwide," said Jimmy Byrd, chief operating officer of 360networks. "Equinix
operates high-quality centers and has attracted a significant aggregation of
data carriers and service providers. This agreement enables us to bring these
centers and their customers onto our network at a very low cost. It is a quick
and highly capital-efficient way to augment our reach and offer our full suite
of network and colocation services to more customers in key markets."
"360networks has developed an industry leading optical mesh network and
bandwidth capabilities that are in demand by many participants in Equinix IBX
centers," said Jay Adelson, CTO of Equinix. "The participation of 360networks
in Equinix's open marketplaces for Internet infrastructure services adds to
our industry leading selection of providers, giving IBX participants even
greater choice in selecting their network service partners."
Equinix's uniquely neutral IBX centers enable enterprises and Internet
businesses to quickly, easily, and privately interconnect with a choice of
business partners, service providers and customers, providing them with the
flexibility, speed, and adaptability they need to accelerate business growth,
 and improve Internet performance.
