Accom Offers Windows Media Video 8 Encoding for High Definition Movie Masters

Apr 23, 2001, 01:00 ET from Accom

    LAS VEGAS, April 23 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- Accom(R)
(OTC Bulletin Board: ACMM), (NAB Booth S4806) today announced at the National
Association of Broadcasters Convention (NAB) it is offering a turnkey solution
supporting universal Windows Media Encoding of standard and high definition
video formats for the professional marketplace.
This allows production companies and studios to do reference quality
encoding from high definition masters to Windows Media with resolutions up to
1920 by 1080, yielding the best results possible.
This solution is based on Accom's WSD/HD digital disk recorder. The
WSD/HD is capable of recording and playing standard definition as well as all
the popular high definition video formats. In addition, it offers precise
frame accurate control of video tape recorders for reliable capture of
content. Inaccurate capture with missing frames is not an option for
professionals. State of the art encoding schemes require multiple passes over
the source content to achieve high quality images. The WSD/HD disks are
directly accessible to the Windows Media Encoder allowing easy multi-pass
 encoding.
"Starting out with a High Definition master gives the best quality
encoding to Windows Media for Video On Demand," said Phil Bennett, Chief
Technology Officer of Accom. "Much the same as masters are already being used
for DVD movie encoding," he continued. "The ability to directly input these
masters to disk and do sophisticated pre-processing will be important to the
top quality encoding applications," Bennett concluded.
"Accom's WSD/HD combined with Windows Media Video 8's quality and security
offers a technological bridge to the high definition professional video world
as studios prepare full length feature films and shows for video on demand
applications over the Internet," said Michael Aldridge, Lead Product Manager,
Windows Digital Media Division, Microsoft Corp.
