Adaptec and Nishan Systems Confirm IP Storage Interoperability With Existing SCSI and Fibre Channel Infrastructure

Adaptec and Nishan Work Together to Accelerate IP Storage Adoption

Apr 05, 2001, 01:00 ET from Adaptec, Inc.

MILPITAS, Calif., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Adaptec Inc. (Nasdaq: ADPT) and
Nishan Systems announced today that Nishan's new IP Storage switches and
Adaptec's SCSI and Fibre Channel host bus adapters are interoperable.
Customers can begin to deploy IP Storage while at the same time leverage their
existing SCSI and Fibre Channel devices with the assurance that the new and
existing products are compatible. The fact that these two IP Storage leaders
are working together to assure compatibility and a smooth migration path to
IP SANs is a signal to the industry that the market adoption of IP Storage is
 fast-approaching.
In tests with both companies' products, Adaptec's 39160 and 2940U2W SCSI
host bus adapters (HBAs) and AFC-9110G Fibre Channel HBA are connected through
Nishan's IPS 3000 and IPS 2000 switches to native SCSI and Fibre Channel
 storage devices.
The tests confirm end-to-end interoperability that can be extended to a
full SAN implementation using IP and Gigabit Ethernet. As additional IP
Storage products become available, customers will be able to easily
incorporate them into their IP SANs and migrate to a total, native IP SAN
 solution.
"We are pleased to be working with Nishan in assisting our customers in
early deployments of this exciting new technology," said Max Steinhardt, vice
president and general manager of Adaptec's Storage Networking Group. "Adaptec
intends to leverage its 10,000 square foot compatibility testing lab to ensure
that nodes throughout IP SANs are interoperable. The verification of
interoperability between Adaptec's and Nishan's products are a reflection of
 that effort."
"By working with Adaptec, we are protecting and improving the
functionality of customers' existing SCSI and Fibre Channel investments," said
Gary Orenstein, director of marketing, Nishan Systems. "Verifying
interoperability between Adaptec's SCSI and Fibre Channel host bus adapters
with Nishan's IP Storage products proves that customers can build IP SANs
today while protecting their legacy investments."
Nishan recently introduced two IP Storage switches that allow companies to
scale the size of their storage networks using IP while maintaining their
existing Fibre Channel and SCSI installed base. Nishan's switch products also
support iSCSI and iFCP. Adaptec, a leader in Fibre Channel and SCSI host bus
adapters, is developing a family of iSCSI storage products including
iSCSI-enabled multi-port network interface cards (NICs) and intelligent iSCSI
controllers. Adaptec's products will begin to roll out this summer.
