SARASOTA, Fla., April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- One area of space tourism is
already reaping the benefits of Dennis Tito's mission to the International
Space Station. Incredible Adventures, a Sarasota, FL-based adventure travel
firm has received a record number of requests for its cosmonaut adventures
since Tito's flight plan was first announced.
"The publicity surrounding Mr. Tito's adventure to space has been great
for us," said company president Jane Reifert. "He's helped spark so much
interest in civilian space training, we expect our June 20 zero-gravity flight
 to be a sell out."
The company's most popular space adventure takes place aboard Russian's
IL-76 MDK weightless plane. Very similar to NASA's KC-135, the plane simulates
zero-gravity by performing a series of parabolic maneuvers in the air. During
each maneuver, those aboard are sent flying and floating aboard the plane's
cabin. The cost for a zero-gravity holiday is $6625 plus airfare to Moscow.
The company also offers a variety of hands-on space training within Star
City's Yuri Gagarin Astronaut Training Center. Participants use different
simulators to complete training exercises identical to those Dennis Tito
mastered to prepare for his trip to the International Space Station. They
learn to navigate by the stars, undergo vestibular training, practice
maneuvering in authentic Orlan space suits and spend time in a centrifuge
experiencing extreme gravitational forces. Certified divers can train in the
same hydrolab used by cosmonauts to prepare for space walks.
Incredible Adventures has been offering space adventures since 1993. The
company also arranges supersonic flights more than 80,000 feet high to the
edge of space in Russian MiG-25s.
