AFS Adds Darshan S. Kailly To Board Of Directors

    CALGARY, April 18 /PRNewswire/ - Alternative Fuel Systems Inc. (TSE:ATF)
 ("AFS" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Darshan S.
 Kailly to the Company's Board of Directors. Mr. Kailly is the President and
 CEO of Canadian Freightways Limited ("CF"). CF has a network of offices in
 Canada and the United States and a fleet of 2,600 over-the-road and related
 vehicles. The corporation's 1,600 skilled employees provide supply chain
 logistics, transportation, customs brokerage and related services throughout
 Canada, the United States and Mexico. CF is a subsidiary of Consolidated
 Freightways, a worldwide supplier of transportation services that trades on
 NASDAQ. Mr. Kailly is also President of Milne & Craighead Inc., a customs
 brokerage and consulting firm, as well as an Officer and Director of six other
 CF subsidiaries.
     Since Mr. Kailly's appointment as President of CF in 1981, the

 which raised gross proceeds of $4.2 million for the Company. AFS received $1.4
 million of the $4.2 million in calendar 2000, with the remainder received in
 the current year. Exercise of all available warrants and broker options from
 the March 2000 financings would have resulted in the issue of 5.75 million
 shares.
