Air Liquide America Starts Up New Cylinder Fill Plant at Westlake, La

HOUSTON, April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Air Liquide America Corporation
announces the start up of a new cylinder fill plant at Westlake, La., after
permanently closing its 35-year-old fill plant adjacent to the new site. The
automated 10,000-square-foot facility, where Air Liquide America repackages
industrial and high-purity gases and is twice the size of the old structure.
With the new facility, the company triples its site capacity for
compressed air, which is naturally occurring atmospheric air for breathing and
used within enclosed areas at refineries, petrochemical plants and other
facilities. In addition, Air Liquide America built a similar fill plant in
Baton Rouge, La. with capabilities for compressed air, and the company also
has compressors at fill plants in Texas at La Porte and Corpus Christi.
Modernization and technology upgrades include new cryogenic pumps,
electronic scales, upgraded liquid fill facilities and an 18,000-cu. ft./hour
air compressor. At the new plant, liquid container-fill time has been cut in
half, the accuracy of gas mixes has improved, and the compressor allows
workers to fill 120,000- to 180,000-cu. ft. tube trailers -- not just
individual cylinders -- with industrial breathing air.
"The new Westlake plant gives us the added capacity to fill products more
quickly and improve the precision of the mixes to within 1/1000th of a
kilogram," said Sam Rohn, cylinder operations manager for Air Liquide America
Corporation. "We've gone from traditional single-cylinder manifold filling,
handling two cylinders at a time, to palletized filling, moving and filling up
to 15 cylinders at a time, so we are able to operate more efficiently and with
 tighter quality control."
Air Liquide is a global provider of industrial and medical gases and
related services. By staying at the vanguard of technological leadership, Air
Liquide provides its customers all over the world with new products, services
and solutions. Founded in 1902, Air Liquide has 125 subsidiaries in
