JACKSON, Miss., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Broadband services provider
AIR2LAN, Inc., said today that it has acquired World Media, Inc., a
Montgomery, Ala., broadband services provider and will immediately begin
offering services in Montgomery under the AIR2LAN name.
AIR2LAN, which provides fixed-wireless broadband access, web design and
other broadband services, now serves business customers in four markets:
Jackson, Houston, New Orleans and Montgomery. The company has said it plans
to announce seven new markets in 2001, and Montgomery is the first such
 announcement.
"We have an opportunity in Montgomery to become the primary choice for
businesses that need bandwidth," said Jai P. Bhagat, chairman and CEO of
AIR2LAN. "We're able to provide services in markets like Montgomery that are
continuing to see fewer broadband competitors."
Montgomery strengthens AIR2LAN's presence in the Southeast and furthers
the company's plans to launch 40 markets by the end of 2003. Additionally,
the acquisition of World Media provides AIR2LAN with a head start on providing
 service in the Montgomery market.
"Finding a capable company with an existing customer base gives us a
tremendous speed-to-market advantage," said James V. Smith, AIR2LAN's chief
 operating officer.
"Montgomery is a high-tech city with big opportunities for a broadband
provider," said John Harris, chairman of World Media. "Becoming part of
AIR2LAN will allow us to respond to the rapidly growing demand in this area."
"The excellence of a Montgomery-grown company like World Media drawing the
attention of AIR2LAN speaks volumes of where Montgomery is headed," said Troy
 L. Wayman, director of industrial affairs for the Montgomery Area Chamber of
Commerce. "AIR2LAN's presence in Montgomery is a benefit to all businesses in
the area, and we consider them an additional tool in our economic development
 efforts to attract IT companies."
