AK Steel and Kawasaki Steel Form Automotive Steel Collaborative

    MIDDLETOWN, Ohio, April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- AK Steel Corporation
 (NYSE:   AKS) and Kawasaki Steel Corporation, Tokyo, have signed a collaboration
 agreement for automotive steel technologies.  The goal of the collaborative is
 to assist each other in better serving each company's traditional automotive
 customers.

     AK Steel said the two companies will focus on product, process and
 application technologies for automotive sheet steels, as well as cooperative
 research programs for product development, application technology and computer
 simulation technology development.
     AK Steel provides steel to all major automotive manufacturers with
 operations in the United States.  More than one half of AK Steel's annual
 flat-rolled steel shipments are made to the automotive and light truck market.
     AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel
 products for automotive, appliance, construction and manufacturing markets, as
 well as standard pipe and tubular steel products.  AK Steel is headquartered
