Albemarle Corporation and Mason Chemical Company Form Strategic Alliance

Apr 30, 2001, 01:00 ET from Albemarle Corporation

BATON ROUGE, La., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Albemarle Corporation
(NYSE: ALB) and Mason Chemical Company have signed an agreement to form a
strategic alliance between the two companies. Under this agreement, Albemarle
Corporation becomes an authorized joint marketer of Mason's registered
MAQUAT(R) product line as well as their cationic surfactants and amine oxides.
Mason Chemical becomes an authorized joint marketer of specific Albemarle
 products including SANIBROM(R), STABROM(R) and ACLD-series biocides.
The alliance will allow each company to expand its efforts to serve
disinfectant, sanitizer, water treatment and other markets.
Albemarle Corporation is a recognized leader in bromine chemistry and
technology as well as a global supplier of bromine-based products including
oilfield completion fluids, specialty solvents, and biocides for the
industrial and recreational water treatment industry. Mason's quaternary
ammonium compounds are an excellent complement to Albemarle's already
extensive product line. A cornerstone of this alliance is Albemarle's
position as a major supplier of fatty tertiary amines used in the production
of quats and amine oxides. Albemarle has supplied these intermediates for
over 20 years and is recognized for the quality and consistency of product,
 service and technical support.
Mason Chemical Company has been a respected leader in the quaternary
ammonium compound (quat) market for over 30 years. Mason brings to this
alliance a wealth of experience in the manufacturing and federal registration
of biocidal quats. Mason's expertise includes developing and formulating
disinfectant and sanitizer products to meet Industrial and Institutional (I &
 I) market demands. They also have registered products in recreation and
industrial water treatment, wood preservation and a line of products for
personal care use. Mason has earned a reputation for rapidly developing
products with enhanced claims in response to ever-changing market needs.
"We created this alliance with the intention that customers would benefit
from the strengths each company has to offer," says Joe Miller, product
manager, Albemarle Corporation. "Each company has a long history servicing
these markets. Now customers will have the choice of purchasing their
combined requirements from one convenient source.
"There will be no change in quality of product or service, nor will
customers have to make any changes in their registrations. By taking
advantage of both companies' strengths and assets, this alliance has the
potential to become the recognized leader in the targeted markets."
A global leader in specialty and fine chemicals that enhance consumer
products, Albemarle Corporation serves markets for polymers, surfactants and
biocides, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, photographic chemicals,
 water treatment and petroleum products.
