Apr 11, 2001, 01:00 ET from Altra Energy Technologies, Inc.

HOUSTON, April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Altra Energy Technologies, Inc.
announced today that it, through its subsidiary, has begun operations within
the New York Independent System Operator (ISO) market. Trading within zones
 A, G and J, Altra's ePower(TM) (formerly known as Altrade(TM) Power) is the
first major independent online exchange to have a presence in the New York
market. Altra, together with its subsidiaries, is the leading provider of
innovative electronic trading services and transaction management software to
 the energy industry.
"Only about 10 percent of all power trading is done online, so the New
York ISO gives us an opportunity to demonstrate to more power traders the
advantages of using the Altra Market Place, which include high liquidity,
anonymity, complete neutrality and real-time information," said Altra
President and CEO Paul Bourke. "The New York ISO is an example of
deregulation at work and we're confident those operating within the ISO will
realize the benefits of online trading in this deregulating market."
Altra ePower offers wholesale power traders access to all NERC regions and
trading points. The real-time platform allows traders to customize their
screens to view their preferred markets, view multiple markets on one screen
and create multiple trading strategies for each day, week or month. Traders
also have access to open-ended standard instruments and trading at all major
power points and spread points in the U.S. Altra ePower also operates within
the California ISO, Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), Tennessee
Valley Authority (TVA), Synergy and PJM Interconnection.
Launched in October 1999, ePower is an exchange for electric utilities,
power marketers, municipalities and independent power producers. A part of
the Altra Market Place, ePower has increased its trading volume by more than
725 percent since its inception. Postings of bids and offers have been as
 high as 4,500 per day.
As a compliment to its power exchange, Altra's software application, Altra
Power, is the most advanced energy transaction delivery management system used
for the transmission, scheduling and recording of electricity for providers,
schedulers, suppliers and other key players in the interconnected electricity
grid. In an increasingly deregulated environment, Altra Power offers retail
access for scheduling direct access load, NERC tagging, contract setup, pre-
and real-time scheduling, invoice generation, billing and budget forecasting,
and access to contracts and inter-utility reports for energy operators who
must compile, analyze and manage high volumes of transactions.
