American Eagle Outfitters Reports Record March Total Sales of $101.7 million And Total U.S. Sales of $93.6 million; U.S. Same Store Sales Increased 5.3%

 American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEOS) today announced total sales for
 the five weeks ended April 7, 2001 increased 37.6% to $101.7 million from
 $73.9 million for the period ended April 1, 2000.  Total sales for the five
 weeks ended April 7, 2001 includes $8.1 million from the Thriftys/Bluenotes
 operation that was acquired effective October 29, 2000.
     American Eagle Outfitters' U.S. sales for the five weeks ended
 April 7, 2001 increased 26.7% to $93.6 million from $73.9 million for the
 period ended April 1, 2000.  U.S. same store sales for the five weeks ended
 April 7, 2001 increased 5.3% compared to the corresponding five-week period
 ended April 8, 2000.
     Total sales for the nine week period ended April 7, 2001 increased
 35.4% to $162.8 million from $120.2 million for the nine week period ended
 April 1, 2000.  Total sales includes $13.4 million from the Thriftys/Bluenotes
 operation that was acquired effective October 29, 2000.
     American Eagle Outfitters' U.S. sales for the nine week period ended
 April 7, 2001 increased 24.3% to $149.4 million from $120.2 million for the
 corresponding nine week period last year.  U.S. same store sales for the 2001
 period rose 1.4% compared to the corresponding nine week period last year.
     Founded in 1977, the Company designs, markets, and sells its own brand of
 relaxed, clean, and versatile clothing for 16 to 34 year olds, providing high-
 quality merchandise at affordable prices.  AE's lifestyle collection offers
 casual basics like cargos complemented by fashion looks in stretch, denim, and
