American Life League: Politicians Sheltered, But Babies Left Exposed by Ill-advised Unborn Victims Act

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from American Life League

WASHINGTON, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- "After 28 years of incremental
surrender, it is time for the pro-life movement to focus solely on the
fundamental reason why abortion is a crime," said Judie Brown, President of
American Life League. "Abortion is a crime because it is the deliberate, cold
blooded murder of an innocent human person."
Brown said the Unborn Victims of Violence Act represents "the latest line
of retreat of the beltway lobby which can no longer claim that protection for
all preborn persons is its goal."
Brown said the bill must be seen in the context of the disastrous
incremental strategy implemented over the past 28 years in the name of
political pragmatism. "While fostering the notion that abortion is
negotiable," she said, "such misguided pragmatism has helped legitimize the
murder of innocent preborns, and has effectively served as a pro-abortion
counterpart on the stage of Washington politics. Such misguided strategy has
effectively helped regulate not only the killing of preborn children, but the
increasingly gruesome manner in which they can be killed."
Brown slammed what she described as a "schizophrenic exemption" in the
Unborn Victims of Violence Act for abortionists who kill the preborn. "Though
the intention of the bill claims to be protecting preborn persons from
violence, it exempts their greatest threat -- the abortionists who butcher
4,400 little boys and girls every day."
Brown said by exempting abortionists, "this bill dangerously recognizes a
woman's fallacious 'right' to abortion in federal legislation. Because of
this, it may even prove detrimental to our ultimate goal of securing a
paramount human life amendment. This is not a pro-life bill.
"It seems to me that if pro-lifers would just be willing to look ahead at
what they truly wish to achieve, and then look back at what has gone before --
making our goal so much farther away than it might have been -- they would put
all their faith in the simple truth, and demand that politicians admit that
abortion is the murder of an innocent human person."

American Life League is the nation's largest pro-life educational
organization with more than 375,000 supporting families.
