NEW ORLEANS, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- AmSouth Bank today announced that it
will establish its New Orleans headquarters at 400 Poydras Street, commonly
known as the Texaco Building. AmSouth also announced plans to open a branch
location in the lobby of the same building by the end of the year,
complementing an existing CBD branch on St. Charles Avenue.
The new downtown headquarters marks the beginning of an aggressive growth
phase for AmSouth, which entered the New Orleans market in October 1999. Over
the next three years, AmSouth plans to open seven new branches and
significantly increase its ATM presence throughout the greater New Orleans
region. The bank will maintain its existing network of ten branches, building
upon a strong branch base in Jefferson parish and expanding its reach in
 Orleans and St. Tammany parishes.
"We have strong roots in New Orleans," said Suzanne Mestayer, AmSouth's
city president for New Orleans. "After a year of solid, organic growth,
AmSouth is ready to expand. We're strategically positioned to service the
high-growth areas in our market with a very attractive product mix across all
lines of business -- consumer, commercial, wealth management and business
 banking."
AmSouth officials expect to house approximately 45 management and
administrative personnel in the new 22,000 sq. ft. headquarters by August.
