Anystream Gives Live Webcasters QuickTime(R) Streams With Dynamic Bit Rate Control

Agility Enterprise(TM) Encoding Platform

Continually Adjusts QuickTime Streams

During Live Events to Match Fluctuating Bandwidth

Apr 24, 2001, 01:00 ET from Anystream, Inc.

    LAS VEGAS, April 24 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- NAB 2001 --
Anystream, an Internet infrastructure software company specializing in
enterprise-class streaming media encoding technology, today announced that its
Agility Enterprise encoding platform now enables simultaneous output of the
three leading streaming formats -- Real, Microsoft, and now Apple QuickTime --
 from a live webcasting event.
Anystream also announced a technology breakthrough: dynamic bit rate
control over live event QuickTime streams, which gives content producers
precise control over their end users' streaming experience by automatically
adjusting QuickTime streaming output to match stream bandwidth and frame rates
with those available during a live event. Since the stream can be adjusted
remotely without interrupting the webcast, viewers see the adjusted stream in
real time without having to restart their QuickTime Player
"This new capability benefits the live webcasting industry as content can
now be dynamically encoded to perfectly match available bandwidth, resulting
in an optimal viewing experience regardless of conditions," said Geoff Allen,
president and CEO of Anystream. "As an enterprise-class software platform,
Agility Enterprise has the flexibility to take full advantage of the QuickTime
platform, and leverage the unique frame-level control capabilities of the
 QuickTime streaming architecture," he said.
"The ability to include QuickTime streams in a live webcasting environment
is a welcome addition that can be deployed across Digital Island's existing
Agility Enterprise installations," said Adam Cohen, vice president of
Streaming and Live Events at Digital Island. "Again, Agility Enterprise
proves its flexibility and enables us to continue to achieve production
efficiencies across our global network via a single platform," he said.
Digital Island uses Agility Enterprise's programmable content acquisition
capabilities in tandem with the platform's live webcasting capabilities in
support of Reuters News. For Reuters, Digital Island automatically captures,
preprocesses, encodes and streams source content from satellite signals in
real time, in a completely unattended environment. Agility Enterprise's Live
Webcasting capabilities provide Digital Island with the ability to webcast
multiple concurrent live events in real time in different formats and bit
rates, while simultaneously capturing uncompressed digital files that can
immediately be used for on-demand encoding.
At the National Association of Broadcasters trade show, Anystream also
announced the latest version of its Agility Workgroup(TM) Encoder -- with
broadcast-native features such as VTR emulation, multi-encoder configurations,
MPEG-2 DVD streams and Apple Macintosh client support -- and named over a
dozen new clients worldwide. Anystream also showcased multi-platform
interoperability with EMC, Leitch, Network Appliance, Network Engines,
 PacketVideo, Pinnacle Systems and Vela.
