Arius3D Launches Photo-realistic 3D Capture System

State-of-the-Art Technology Produces Photo-realistic, 3D, Digital Color Copies

Of Real World Objects; Systems to be Deployed in Service Bureaus Worldwide

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from Arius3D Inc.

TORONTO, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Arius3D Inc. today announced the
deployment of the company's first color scanning systems in their Utah and
Toronto Service Bureau locations. This proprietary and patented system is
based on Arius3D's core scanning technology (called Foundation); the only
technology that simultaneously captures the true color and geometry of an
object, with perfect registration, independent of ambient light. The result is
photo-realistic, 3D, digital copies of real world objects, which can be used
for a variety of applications including: the wired and wireless Web, video
games, multi-media, film, advertising, product design, education, heritage,
and manufacturing. Arius3D will continue deploying these systems to the
 company's Service Bureaus worldwide.
"Arius3D is transforming the world of 3D content creation and
visualization," said Rick Camilleri, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
Arius3D. "Finally, photo-realistic, 3D content no longer needs to be created
using expensive and time consuming alternative methods. With the Arius3D
system, 3D content is created quickly and easily in a light and versatile
format, which can be scaled and repurposed. This provides a simple and
efficient solution to 3D content creation for a variety of markets, ranging
 from e-commerce to games."
Traditional 3D scanning and modeling techniques involve the capture of
color and geometry separately, followed by a texture-mapping phase to merge
them together. These methods are time consuming and expensive, which has
contributed to 3D remaining limited to a few select industries and
applications. Arius3D's capture system enables anyone to use and view 3D
images, driving an entirely new generation of services and experiences for
users, especially those on the wired and wireless Web.

     Arius3D Core Technology
Based on technology developed by Canada's National Research Council (NRC),
the Arius3D Solution provides photo-realistic, 3D digital copies of real-world
objects using a proprietary laser scanning system. The results are unaffected
by ambient light, giving end users color data, without light artifacts, at
microscopic resolution. Data captured from 3D color point-clouds contains
detailed color information, which can be used for such things as grouping,
animation and part separation, all of which are extremely valuable when
creating workflows for rapidly building large quantities of digital content.
This is simply not available from data obtained with traditional monochrome
 scanning techniques.

     About Arius3D
Founded in 1998, Arius3D Inc. is playing a key role in the shaping and
evolution of the world's visualization industries. Arius3D uses patented
technology to create true-to-life 3D digital content. The technology, called
Foundation, is a unique laser scanning system that captures perfect and
repeatable color and geometry at near microscopic levels. For the first time,
companies will be provided with a totally integrated solution to obtaining
highly detailed 3D content, formatted for many purposes, such as the wired and
wireless Web, design, entertainment, museums, and a variety of other 3D
applications. The founders of Arius3D include principals of some of the
world's most renowned imaging companies including IMAX, SCIEX and Viewpoint
Digital. For more information visit the company's Web site at www.arius3d.com.
