    EMERYVILLE, Calif., April 25 /PRNewswire/ --
Ask Jeeves, Inc.(R) (Nasdaq: ASKJ), a leading provider of natural language
question answering technologies and services, today announced the appointment
 of key management positions.

-- George (Skip) Battle, a former managing partner and member of the
Executive Committee at Accenture, formerly Andersen Consulting, was
named CEO. Skip, an Ask Jeeves board member since 1997, has been
interim CEO of Ask Jeeves since December 7, 2000.
-- Steven Sordello, formerly senior director of financial planning at
Adobe Systems, was named Ask Jeeves' CFO after holding that position in
        an acting capacity.
-- Steven Berkowitz, former president and COO of IDG Books, was appointed
as president of Ask Jeeves Web Properties, effective May 16, 2001.

Joined by Claudio Pinkus, president of Ask Jeeves Business Solutions and
George Lichter, president of Ask Jeeves International, these executive
appointments complete the Ask Jeeves management team.
"With the appointment of Steven Berkowitz as president of Web Properties
and Steve Sordello as permanent CFO, we have completed our executive
management team. The talent and operational experience of this team provides
the leadership I believe will enable us to execute our strategy and restore
growth to the company," said Skip Battle, CEO of Ask Jeeves.
Ask Jeeves also announced today that Adam Klein, president, has resigned.
Pinkus and Berkowitz will assume all operating responsibilities, including
engineering, marketing, product management and sales for their divisions and
report directly to Battle. The company does not plan to fill the president
 position.
Battle added, "Adam played an important role in the strategic and
organizational realignment of the company. Now that we have successfully made
the transition to two distinct business units, and the divisional presidents
have profit and loss responsibilities for their respective businesses, our
operations do not require a president of the company."

Veteran Executive from Accenture Brings Broad Experience to Ask Jeeves
Battle retired from Accenture, formerly Andersen Consulting in 1995,
having joined the firm in 1968 and served as a partner since 1978. From 1982
he held a series of management positions in the firm including worldwide
managing partner market development and managing partner U.S. operations and
planning. Battle was also a member of the firm's Executive Committee, Global
Management Council and Partner Income Committee. Battle is a member of the
Boards of Directors of PeopleSoft, Inc., Barra, Inc. and Fair Isaac and
Company, Inc., as well as a director of Masters Select Equity Fund, Masters
Select International Fund and Masters Select Value Fund, registered investment
 companies.

CFO Brings Experience in Financial Planning and Management Control Systems
Prior to becoming CFO, Sordello held the position of vice president of
financial planning and analysis. Sordello brings a wide range of experience in
implementing financial planning and management control systems to Ask Jeeves.
Before joining Ask Jeeves in July 1999, Sordello held the position of Senior
Director of Financial Planning at Adobe Systems, Inc. Prior to Adobe, Sordello
held a series of finance and accounting positions at Syntex Corporation.
Sordello holds a BA in Finance and Management from the University of Santa
Clara and is a Certified Management Accountant. He has been with Ask Jeeves
 since June 1999.

Seasoned Media Executive to Lead Web Properties
Steve Berkowitz joins Ask Jeeves as President of its Web properties
division. Berkowitz will leverage his background and experience in growing
consumer-oriented businesses to build the Ask Jeeves brand and execute
strategies to re-establish Web Property revenue growth. From 1994-1999, Steve
was president and COO of IDG Books, where he had responsibility for all
company functions and launched the Dummies series of book titles, one of the
largest consumer branded publications. He oversaw the expansion of the Dummies
series from a technical computer support product to a celebrated consumer
brand addressing diverse consumer interests from gourmet cooking to sports to
pet care. Under his leadership, IDG Books' revenue grew from $25 million to
$250 million and its employees grew from 80 to 700. Most recently, Berkowitz
was President and CEO of Intermap Systems, an ASP content provider focused on
 online consumer healthcare information systems.
"We have been looking for a leader in Web Properties who is passionate
about our large and loyal user base as well as the products and services we
deliver to advertisers. This requires a combination of brand management,
technology savvy and experience with large media companies," said Battle. "We
have found that skill set in Steve and his background will enable us to
continue to execute our strategy and restore growth to the division."
"Ask Jeeves' ability to connect emotionally with users is a tremendous
strength and one that attracted me to the company. There are few brands that
achieve such an emotional connection and loyalty with their customers," said
Berkowitz. "My contribution begins at an important time for the company when
our ability to create and deliver on the next generation of online advertising
and branding vehicles is critical. Our leadership in a market that today
remains largely untapped, is sustained only by our ability to consistently
connect advertisers with their target audience. I believe our natural language
technology, excellent user experience and innovative products position us
squarely ahead of that large market opportunity."
