NEWTON, Mass. and PALO ALTO, Calif., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Aspect
Medical Systems (Nasdaq: ASPM) and Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today
announced the shipment of an integrated BIS module that enables Agilent's CMS
and V24/26 Series patient monitors to display Aspect's Bispectral Index(R)
(BIS(R)) measurement of depth of consciousness without the need for a second
 monitor.

"We selected BIS technology for integration into our CMS and V24/26
systems because it provides valuable information for anesthesia providers and
is a clinically proven product," said Tony Ecock, general manager of Agilent's
Patient Monitoring Division. "We believe that the BIS parameter will play a
key role in the future of anesthesia monitoring and that it will become a new
standard of care. Now, with our module, clinicians gain simplified access to
the BIS measurement by eliminating the need for external devices."
Agilent, the world's largest patient monitoring supplier, shipped the
first BIS modules to customers last week. Previously, clinicians using an
Agilent monitoring system required a stand-alone Aspect monitor to view the
BIS measurement. With the new module, the BIS and other vital signs are
displayed on a single Agilent monitor - providing a cost and space-saving
 solution for clinicians.
"We are pleased that the world's leading provider of patient monitoring
solutions has selected BIS technology for integration into their systems,"
said Nassib Chamoun, president and CEO of Aspect. "This relationship with
Agilent is a meaningful step in the adoption of BIS technology as the gold
standard for consciousness monitoring and represents a significant opportunity
for both companies to bring a complete patient monitoring solution to
 operating rooms worldwide."
